Two Wapato High School juniors, Karen and Haily Trejo, have been selected as student representatives to Washington State’s Migrant Education Program State Advisory Committee. This prestigious appointment recognizes their dedication to advocating for the needs of migrant students and their families.
As members of the Committee, the Trejo sisters will play a vital role in shaping policies and practices that improve educational opportunities for migrant students throughout the state. Each of them says they are honored to have been selected and look forward to serving as the student voice on the Committee.
The State Advisory Committee’s primary goal is to ensure that the migrant education program effectively addresses the unique challenges and needs of this student population. The sisters will contribute to the committee’s work in a variety of ways, for example, by providing feedback on program services like tutoring, counseling and cultural support.
